Financial Details

  • Each winner will get a $5,000 seed money to help them make their short film.

  • A mentoring programme will be offered to the winners.

  • The Wavelength team will offer support with distribution, production, and development plans.

eligibility

  • The WAVE Grant from Wavelength is for a about 10-minute narrative short. We won’t take into consideration any already-produced or finished shorts.

  • The short’s production must be finished by 2024. There can be no production before February 2024.

  • The applicant’s first project as a director must be this one. Student films are not considered previous work. Candidates may have prior experience in the film industry outside of directing.

  • The production’s copyright, as well as financial and editorial control, must belong to the applicants.

  • Candidates must identify as female or non-binary and as a member of the BIPOC community.

  • Candidates must be based in the United States, and they must present documentation of their residency.

  • Series, engagement/outreach campaigns, and feature films will not be taken into consideration. Concepts for documentaries or films in need of finishing money won’t be taken into consideration.

Requirements

  • Include a brief synopsis of the plot and tone in the treatment (no more than one page).

  • A script is not necessary, however it is preferred if you have one.

  • Work-in-progress budget exclusively for the development stage, along with your production timeline. (An aside on movie funding: Wavelength collaborates with Seed & Spark as a platform tool that grantees can use.

  • Include a PDF of your CV with your resume. You’re welcome to include a link to your individual portfolio.

  • Video pitch (three minutes maximum): A one to three minute video in which you introduce yourself and the project is preferred (private video or YouTube link).

  • They won’t be able to consider your application without a signed release form.

  • If enrolled, the student must graduate from college in 2024 or earlier.
