The University of Alberta, in Edmonton, is one of Canada’s largest research universities. It was established in 1908 with Henry Marshall Tory as its first president.

The Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research promotes graduate education, establishes and maintains quality standards, leads the strategic graduate planning activities of the University, provides support and services to graduate applicants, students, and graduate programs, and administers numerous graduate scholarships and awards.

Summary:      

Eligibility:

Applicants must be:

  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or students on a study permit

  • Are admitted to a doctoral or thesis-based master’s graduate degree program by the department or transferred from a master’s to a doctoral degree program

  • Will be registered full-time in a doctoral degree or thesis-based master’s degree program

  • Have an admission GPA of at least 3.5   

  • Applicants should have high English language proficiency             

Value:

Scholarships will be offered in increments of $5,000       

How to apply for the University of Alberta Scholarships

 Students cannot submit an application directly for this scholarship. Eligible students will be considered for the scholarship based on the recommendation of the admitting department.

Deadline:

Deadlines are based on start dates and are as follows:

  • For students with a May 1, 2023 start date, the deadline is March 31, 2023

  • For students with a July 1, 2023 start date, the deadline is May 31, 2023

  • For students with a September 1, 2023 start date, the deadline is July 11, 2023

  • For students with a January 1, 2024 start date, the deadline is November 15, 2023
