Focus Regions
Solutions for CCUS and carbon removal
Including direct air and direct ocean collection, carbon capture
Utilization of carbon dioxide (synthetic fuels, environmentally friendly chemicals, food and beverages, long-lasting solutions like building materials, other industry)
Efficiency improvements in the carbon dioxide value chain, as well as carbon dioxide transportation and storage
Carbon-free hydrogen
production of natural hydrogen; hydrogen with zero or low carbon content (such as green, blue, or turquoise).
Transport and storing hydrogen
using hydrogen to replace fossil fuels in activities other than transportation that emit little or little carbon
Green chemicals and alternative fuels
(For use in aircraft, shipping, and heavy-duty road transport) E-fuels and sustainable fuels
Low-carbon powertrains for transportation (but not for personal vehicles on the road)
Power-to-X
Technologies for switching fuels in industry
Green methanol and ammonia storage, transportation, and production
Utilization of methanol and ammonia in a sustainable manner, excluding for transportation
Additional green chemical manufacturing
Deep sea minerals and critical transitional metals with low carbon content, such as battery metals,
alternative energy
Coastal renewable energy
external wind
Tidal and wave
Offshore geothermal energy, including the reusing of old wells and the technologies needed to do so (such as self-sealing cement), as well as the extraction of important metals and minerals from geothermal brine
portable solar
utilization of current offshore infrastructure to produce carbon-free energy
Network infrastructure and offshore energy storage
on-site renewable energy
shoreward wind
On-site solar power
Onshore geothermal includes mining essential metals and minerals from geothermal brine, reusing old wells and the technologies needed to do it (such self-sealing cement).
Batteries, transmission and distribution network technology, and on-shore energy storage and network infrastructure
Electronic options
Managing ocean data for offshore renewable energy
Digital twins (model construction and linkage to actual assets), which include industrial heat
Applications of data science, or artificial intelligence (AI) in general, such as generative AI
Distributed ledger software
uses for satellite telemetry and imaging
Robotics, with a focus on environmentally friendly robots
Unmanned aircraft, especially underwater
Long-range drones using hydrogen propulsion
Monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) for the storage of carbon in natural systems (such as increased rock weathering) is also included in carbon removal.
Digital solutions for Technology Focus Areas 1-4 and 6 (low-carbon hydrogen, renewable energy, alternative fuels and green chemicals, decarbonized industrial heat and cooling technologies, other, CCUS & carbon removal solutions)
industrial heat and cooling systems that are carbon-free, among other
sun thermal technology for industry
Industrial and process heat production, use, and storage solutions that are low-carbon (including offshore applications)
Technologies for industrial cooling that are carbon-free (including those used offshore)
Utilizing waste heat
mitigation of flaming and venting
Detection and reduction of methane leaks
Benefits
Get up to £100,000 in grant money, professional assistance, and mentoring on:
Testing your value proposition and business model across the value chain with technical specialists and potential industrial clients.
the development of a prototype or minimal viable product.
At the cohort’s final showcase Demo Day, where contestants compete for a share of £200K in cash awards, participants pitch potential clients.
ADNOC, bp, Equinor, and other partners might be involved in field trials to test your solution.
Prior to using it in investor meetings, structure capital raising and investor pitches.
building multicultural teams.
maximizing the advantage by joining the large energy industry network of the Net Zero Technology Centre.
Developing your brand and articulating your startup’s history.
Organizing your company in a way that is legal and tax-efficient.
calculating and displaying the carbon footprint of your gadget.
securing your intellectual property, creating an IP strategy, and requesting patents.
expanding your firm with two more years of business assistance and co-working space.
Eligibility requirements
Technology must be being developed that fits into one of the target areas. Your new business must also:
Applicants must be working on cutting-edge, wholly owned clean energy technologies.
The applicant company’s technology must have a TRL of 2 or higher (early-stage technology concept) or 6 (technology prototype shown in a relevant setting). Even if your business has additional technologies with a higher TRL, you can still apply as long as the technology you use is TRL 2 to 6.
Each technology that is approved for the program must be capable of lowering greenhouse gas emissions. TechX concentrates on innovations with industrial uses. Technologies with only industrial, commercial, or domestic uses are not covered.
All start-ups are required to make a 15-week commitment to the program, committing to sending at least one team member to all mandatory sessions and meetings. This entails making the trip to Aberdeen for three weeks of in-person instruction, taking part in consistent online seminars with a GMT time zone, and being available from Monday through Thursday for the whole program.
All start-ups need to want to use their technology or have an economic impact in Scotland’s North East and the rest of the UK. The initiative welcomes start-ups from all around the world, but they must establish a UK business and explain how they intend to help the UK.
To be eligible for funding, all startups must comply with the Subsidy Control Act (2022). The company cannot exceed the Minimal Financial Assistance cap during the previous three years as a result of the £100k TechX grant.
Startups cannot submit the same technology to TechX Accelerator more than three times.
