Objective of Work
To safeguard the safety and security of persons and property within the Secretariat premises, to monitor and coordinate security operations at the ECOSOCC premises in accordance with the African Union’s security and safety protocols.
Principal Tasks
The person overseeing security will:
Regularly provide the Management Team with security updates that include scenario analysis, actions taken, and actions suggested.
Evaluate how security policies are being applied and how vulnerable a facility is; suggest improvements to strengthen security
Communicate with the diplomatic police there.
Manage nearby security and guard personnel
Supports the creation of guidelines and protocols for assessing crisis circumstances and creating emergency plans.
Particular Obligations
Participate in keeping an eye on the county’s security status and report any new security risks to ECOSOCC employees, operations, property, and assets.
Looks into minor theft, unauthorized entry, assault, and other occurrences and makes reports where the gravity of the offense is easily ascertained.
Regularly inspects commercial and residential buildings for security issues.
Oversees the activities of security teams and makes sure there are no potential risks or threats on the ECOSOCC property.
Verify that access control practices are carried out in accordance with SOPs and AU security and safety policy.
Walk through access control activities every day and submit an inspection report to the line manager.
Creates and puts into action safety precautions against mishaps, theft, and other hazards;
Provides regular updates on security developments and information on any security issues to shift leaders and security guards stationed at all security posts during their shift takeover;
Keeps a record of everything that happens every day at the Security Office;
Verifies that every security guard assigned to a security station has reported for duty and received their allocated responsibilities.
Support the creation of thorough security reports for management;
Ensure that the host police unit stationed at the ECOSOCC is deployed effectively, coordinates with the security teams, and provides team commanders with information;
Ascertain that the building safety plan is followed and that frequent building evacuation drills are carried out;
Compiles a daily report on security activities and submits it to his direct supervisor;
Address and manage security-related situations involving AU employees and their qualified dependents; and
Any other responsibilities that the supervisors may assign that are connected to security and safety.
Academic prerequisites and pertinent work experience
Three (3) years of appropriate job experience, progressively more responsibility security experience (e.g., military, police, government, or private security service), and an advanced diploma in security or a related discipline; Alternatively, two (2) years of relevant work experience in progressively responsible security roles (e.g., military, police, government, or private security service) combined with a university degree in security or related disciplines
Any training or certification from the police or military will be advantageous.
Previous leadership or administrative experience in a law enforcement or military setting would be advantageous (Senior NCO, Lieutenant or higher).
Needed Proficiency

Outstanding ability to utilize office software. Proficiency in the SAP system is strongly recommended.
Stay up to date on any new advancements in the field of security.
Complete mastery of Microsoft Word and functional familiarity with Microsoft Power Point.
Proficiency in reading maps and using HF and VHF/UHF radios.
Fluency in at least two of the working languages of the African Union (Portuguese, Arabic, English, French, and Spanish), with a preference for English, French, and Arabic. Being able to work in one or more additional working languages would be advantageous.

ASSESSMENT TERMINATION:
The position will be filled for a length of three (3) years on a normal term contract, with the first year serving as a probationary period. for that, the contract will be renewable for two years if sufficient performance and deliverables are made.

RECOGNITION:
The indicative base salary for internationally recruited staff is US$ 15,758.00 (GSA5 Step1) per year, plus other related entitlements such as post adjustment (44% of basic salary), housing allowance ($ 16,813.44 per year), and education allowance ($ 10,000.00 per year for each eligible dependent up to a maximum of US$ 10,000.00 per child) for locally recruited staff and $3,300 per child for internationally recruited staff.
