Goal and Purpose

  • In order to recognise and honour champions who go above and beyond to improve the health outcomes for children and expectant women living with infectious diseases around the world, Fondazione Penta ETS, with its registered office in Corso Stati Uniti, Padova, Italy (hereinafter referred to as “Penta”), plans to present seven prestigious international awards.

  • The BFA 2023 has three main objectives: to support initiatives aimed at improving maternal and child health, particularly in relation to old and new infectious diseases; to give scientists opportunities to connect with and learn from local communities that are at the forefront of maternal and child health; and to close the gap between data and human stories in order to help scientists work towards solutions that have a real-world impact on public health.

  • Seven winners will be chosen by a Penta-appointed jury and assessed by Penta ID Network participants for their contribution to mother and child health.

Trophy Categories

  • The BFA 2023 is divided into two categories:Brighter Future Award from Penta: Each of the following six (six) regions will get one of the six (six) awards:

    • North America is made up of the US, Canada, Bermuda, St. Pierre and Miquelon, as well as Greenland.

    • Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela are all part of Central and South America.

    • Europe: This region is made up of the nations that make up the continent of Europe, such as Poland, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, and many others.

    • Nigeria, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Tanzania, and many other nations on the African continent are included in this region.

    • Asia: The nations of Asia, including China, Japan, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Thailand, and many more, are included in this region.

    • Oceania: This area is made up of the Pacific Ocean’s nations and islands, such as Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, and numerous others.

  • One (one) young researcher in the field of mother and child health will receive the Penta’s Brighter Future Young Researcher Award.

Award Amount

  • The combined cash award for each of the seven winners will be €5,000.00 (five thousand euros). Any tax repercussions that may result from winning the prize are not Penta’s responsibility.

  • At an awards ceremony for the Penta ID Network Meeting (“PIM”), which will take place in Italy in April 2024, the prizes will be given out. All seven winners’ travel and lodging expenses to the award presentation will be paid for by Penta.

Criteria

  • The BFA 2023 is a nomination-only competition. Anyone who is at least 16 years old may nominate someone for the BFA 2023.

  • Anyone who makes a major contribution to maternal and child health, particularly infectious diseases that harm children, is eligible for the BFA 2023. The BFA 2023 awardees will include professionals who have made significant contributions to the field of mother and child health, particularly in the area of infectious disease, as well as established leaders and young researchers.

  • Young Researchers are people who are pursuing a PhD or possessing a similar level of professional training and are ready to establish their own research identities. They define a young researcher as someone who is: a pre-doctoral or doctoral student; a post-doctoral fellow within the first four years of employment following receipt of a PhD; or a resident (an MD in training within the first five years after receipt of an MD).

  • Nominations from groups are accepted. For the BFA 2023 award ceremony in 2024, just one of the group members will formally travel to Italy.

Exclusion Criteria

  • They or one of them will be excluded from the event if

  • The nominee was under 16 when they made the nomination.

  • Self-nomination is prohibited if the nominee is under 16 at the time of the award ceremony.

  • Sensitive material found in nominations includes things like a person’s racial or ethnic background, political ideas, religious or philosophical beliefs, health-related information, information about their sexual life or orientation, union participation, and genetic information.

  • Sensitive information in nominations will be disregarded.

  • The nomination is missing crucial information (such as the nominee’s name, last name, email address, and the justification for the nomination).

  • The nominee declines to accept the honour.

  • The nominee declines to offer their video tale and gives no permission for it to be published on the Penta website or in any other platforms Penta plans to utilise for the BFA 2023 (such as social media).
