Misinformation Student Fellowship Program 2023, sponsored by Poynter and Google News Initiative ($10,000 stipend)

The Poynter & Google News Initiative Misinformation Student Fellowship Program 2023 is currently accepting applications. A student fellowship program aimed at battling mis- and disinformation in communities will be launched by the Google News Initiative and Poynter in 2023 due to the persistent issue of misinformation and how quickly it can spread, particularly on social media.

In local newsrooms, fellows will focus on initiatives to stop the spread of false information and encourage younger people to become digitally literate. Fellows may cover regional disinformation patterns, produce video content, conduct research for stories or projects, or perform other duties to support local newsrooms and help their communities become resilient to misinformation.

Benefits

  • A $10,000 stipend will be given to each fellow for the duration of the program.

  • In addition, fellows will participate in the fall cohort of Poynter’s Campus Correspondents program and receive Training from both of those organizations’ MediaWise Initiative and Google News Lab.

  • as of January 1, 2023, enrolled in an authorized college or university;

  • Able to work in person if the host newsroom requires it.
