The Kokuyo Design Award 2024 is officially accepting applications. The Kokuyo Design Award is a worldwide product design competition that seeks to collaborate with and promote exceptional designers.

Since its inception, exceptional product ideas have been chosen from entries that reflect current societal conditions, and prize-winning works have been transformed into commercial items through collaboration between KOKUYO developers and the award winners. KOKUYO aspires to support the future activities of designers while also bringing you a tomorrow you can’t wait for by delivering designs to the world that breathe new life into the tools we frequently use in our daily lives and at work as reliable products.

Since the award’s inception more than 20 years ago, more than 20 goods have been developed. It is still evolving as a project that expresses value reflective of the times, rather than just as something to be chosen and rewarded.

Theme

The Kokuyo Design Award 2024, with the subject “primitive,” seeks product ideas that will be indispensable in the future by returning to the fundamental quality of our everyday instruments for working, learning, and living.

Prizes

  • Grand Prix (one winner): 2,000,000 (about $14,200).

  • Merit Award (three winners): 500,000 (about $3,500) each.

  • New Generation Award (maximum of ten winners): 30,000 (about $210) each winner

Eligibility

Corporations, organizations, people, and groups of various ages, genders, professional backgrounds, and nationalities are all welcome.Only designs that have never been publicly displayed (in Japan or elsewhere) are eligible for entry.

Criteria for Judging

  • The clarity of the concept

  • The concept emphasizes social issues.

  • The design’s potential as a product
