The King Bhumibol Award for World Soil Day Award, which will be given annually to those who put forth the effort to plan successful celebrations within the framework of the World Soil Day campaign the previous year, was approved by the 6th GSP Plenary Assembly.

The WSDA’s mission is to support difficult and exceptional celebrations all around the world by inspiring WSD event organisers at all levels.

The Kingdom of Thailand, which was instrumental in creating the now-famous World Soil Day, is the sponsor of the Award. In order to recognise His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand’s lifetime dedication to improving the quality of millions of people’s lives through sustainable soil management, the UN General Assembly decided in December 2013 to officially designate December 5 as World Soil Day.

Award Details

  • The prize includes a medal, a cheque for $15 000, and, if possible, travel to Thailand to collect it.

Eligibility

  • A wide range of WSD events may be taken into consideration for the award, which may be given to persons, organisations, NGOs, academic institutions, colleges and universities, private corporations, or any other entities.

  • The event must occur between December 1 and December 15 and must adhere to the WSD theme for the year.
