With two prizes, Farm Radio International recognises excellence across its radio network. The George Atkins Communications Award honours a top broadcaster on our network who is dedicated to supporting small towns and rural areas. The Liz Hughes Award for Her Farm Radio honours the team behind a programme that promotes gender equality and has had a positive influence on the neighbourhood.

On World Radio Day 2024, there will be a unique ceremony where winners will be revealed.The George Atkins Communications Award honours specific radio broadcasters for their exceptional dedication to and contribution to ensuring food security and eradicating poverty in low-income nations. It bears George Atkins’ name, who founded Farm Radio International.

Each year, broadcasters that exhibit overall proficiency in meeting the requirements of small-scale farmers as well as a strong cooperation with Farm Radio International are given this award.

Award

  • The George Atkins Communications Award winners receive a plaque and a cash award of $500 CA.

Eligibility

To qualify for the prize:

  • You must be employed by a radio station that has been a broadcasting partner of Farm Radio International for at least a year.

  • A minimum of three years’ worth of radio broadcasting experience is required. This includes any time spent working as a broadcaster voluntarily.
