GEC+Africa Regional Pitching Competition Programme 2024 for Africa SMEs ($50 000 Prize)

The GEC+ Africa 2024 Entrepreneurship Regional Pitching Competition is now accepting applications. The regional pitching competitions for entrepreneurship are designed to draw SMMEs and startups from all around the African continent to present their enterprises. This will be a chance to showcase Africa’s cutting-edge companies and SMMEs and a venue to improve each nation’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

In advance of the pitching competitions taking place in their various nations, selected applicants will be invited to attend a bootcamp. A total of 10 winners will be chosen by the GEC+ Cape Town adjudicators from the road shows, and they will be given the chance to travel to Cape Town, South Africa, where GEC+ Cape Town will be held. Investors and organizations that support entrepreneurs from across the continent will attend the final pitch.

The top 3 winners will split a $50,000 reward and have the chance to enroll in an accelerator program after the congress.

Eligibility

Open to non-tech startups or SMMEs that are post-revenue and pre-seed or seed stage tech firms having at least a Minimum Viable Product (MVP).Africa should be home to startups.

Selection Standards

When candidates present their companies to the adjudicators, the following criteria will act as a general guideline in judging the applications:

  • Has the entrepreneur (or entrepreneurs) clearly recognized the issue they are attempting to address and who this issue affects? Is the issue significant enough, that is, does it indicate a sizable and expanding target market?

  • Value Proposition: How does the suggested solution differ from those already on the market? Has it got a definite advantage over rivals?

  • The Business Case: Can the business model actually generate revenue while providing the desired value? Is this business plan enduring? Has the company developed a clear strategy?

  • Team Makeup: Is the team qualified and competent enough to carry out the delivery of the product or service and its business model?

  • The minimum viable item What extent does the MVP successfully communicate the value proposition? Does the MVP offer a solid base for future growth and scaling?

  • Overall effectiveness of the pitch A pitch deck was delivered? Was the business owner ready to present and respond to questions?
