Fellowship at the german Schloss Solitude for Artists (€1 200)

Young scientists, artists, and cultural professionals are supported by Akademie Schloss Solitude through residential fellowships.

Both scientists and artists are eligible. A residential fellowship is the Solitude fellowship. At least two thirds of a fellow’s fellowship must be spent at the Akademie. For the duration of the fellowship, all fellows are required to maintain a permanent address in Stuttgart (residence registration requirement).
Students enrolled in degree programmes are not eligible to apply; only PhD candidates may do so.
Artist collective applications are possible.
Application requirements include knowledge of either German, English, or one of the other three languages.
It is prohibited to submit duplicate applications to the AkademieSchloss Solitude and the Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg gGmbH (Arts Foundation Baden-Württemberg).
A candidate whose application is rejected during one phase of the selection process may submit an application during two additional rounds (at most).
Every two years, there are application rounds for the Solitude fellowships. The jury may select up to 65 fellows. Three guest studios and 42 live/work studios are offered.
Typically, scholarships are given out for six, nine, or twelve months.

The following advantages come with the fellowship:

A free, equipped living/working space with power, running water, and heatinga fellowship allowance of €1,200 per month,travel costs (on a one-time basis) for arrival and departure.
The Akademie additionally provides optional extra perks that can be altered depending on the available funds:
Subsidised transportation costs for the delivery of supplies, equipment, tools, and literature to Stuttgart and from Stuttgart to the fellow’s hometown,
In the case of non-EU fellowship candidates, health insurance, project financing, and one-time materials subsidies.

Each year, a fresh jury is chosen.
The selection of the fellows is assured to be of a high aesthetic and scientific calibre by the worldwide first-rate panel.
The jurors base their selections on the quality of the work samples that applicants submitted.
Legally speaking, there is no right to be given a fellowship. The jury’s judgement will be communicated to the applicant in writing, but no explanations will be provided. Fellowship participants are given a foundation contract and a list of house rules. Fellowships become enforceable once the foundation contract is signed.
