BIGSAS-DAAD Graduate School Scholarship Programme 2024 for female African sTUDENTS

Outstanding African women scholars who are based on the continent are invited to join the international community of early career researchers working in the subject of African Studies at the Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies, or BIGSAS. Based on the interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research environment of the Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence at the University of Bayreuth, BIGSAS offers a hub for imaginative and inventive doctorate training.

Within the framework of the German Academic Exchange Service’s (DAAD) Graduate School Scholarship Programme (GSSP), BIGSAS will grant two scholarships in 2024. Candidates who have successfully completed the BIGSAS application process will be nominated for these by BIGSAS. The DAAD will make the ultimate decision about the scholarship. The scholarship periods start as early as October 2024 and, if applicable, include a summer German language course. The scholarships can be received for a maximum of four years during that time.

Requirements

  • At the time of nomination, applicants could not have lived in Germany for longer than fifteen months. Although applications can be submitted in French, German, or English, please be aware that BIGSAS only accepts English as its working language.

  • Candidates need to hold an excellent Master’s degree or its equivalent.

  • At the time of BIGSAS’s nomination, the most recent Master’s degree or its equivalent must have been earned within the previous six years.

  • Two reports (letters of recommendation) from academic instructors in your previous study program(s) who know you reasonably well must be sent with your application.
