26th Annual HBS Africa Business Conference New Venture Competition

The HBS Africa Business Conference New Venture Competition is now accepting applications.

On February 16–17, 2024, the 26th Harvard Business School Africa Business Conference will take place under the banner “Africa Forward: Competing in a Global Era.” The New Venture Competition, which aims to highlight the variety of entrepreneurs making a difference on the continent right now, will be held as part of the conference by the Africa Business Club.

From the pool of applicants, 10 semi-finalists will be chosen to present their companies to an audience of more than 1,000 people and receive comments from a distinguished panel of judges.

Benefits

  • Cash awards of $30,000, $15,000, and $10,000 will be given to the winner and the runners-up in second and third place, respectively.

  • The NVC semi-finalists will have the chance to solicit feedback, counsel, and suggestions from conference attendees as well as senior partners at VCs with an emphasis on Africa from all over the continent.

  • Additionally, a few enterprises will have the chance to exhibit their businesses at the Startup Fair networking and hiring event and to attend networking lunches with eminent panellists.

eligibility

  • All African and African-focused entrepreneurs with companies aiming to shape the future are eligible to enter the competition.

  • Entrepreneurs that fit the following eligibility requirements and provide original, locally developed solutions to regional issues are strongly encouraged to apply:

  • Early-stage businesses, whether for profit or nonprofitfocused on Africa, with the majority or all of its operations there

  • Less than 50 workers

  • Less than five years’ worth of operations

  • Less than $1,000,000 has been raised thus far.
